You will be offered a non-judgmental space to talk about your issues together with your therapist. If you choose sessions on Zoom then a private space in your home where you will not be overheard works best. You may choose to come to our therapy space in Petersfield, Hampshire for your sessions.
Your therapist will offer you some tools to help you have effective conversations. They will guide you on how to overcome problem areas and how to improve your connection.
Initially, our 4 session assessment process gives you both an equal opportunity to express what you feel the current issues are. As the therapy progresses, the aim is to encourage your partner to hear what you're saying and vice versa. That way you both begin to see the bigger picture of what is going on between you. You'll both be given help to really listen and try to understand each other's points of view.

At the start of therapy, your therapist will discuss your needs and what you would like to get out of the sessions. Based on this, your therapist will recommend a number of sessions usually between five and twenty. They all may also suggest you leave the duration open-ended so you can choose when to end the therapy.

Couples therapy is based on mutuality and trust. Our assessment process enables you to get comfortable with talking to your therapist. You will also complete an individual online questionnaire leading to a Couple Report which will show you both where the strengths and challenges of the relationship lie. If a course of therapy is suitable for you as a couple your therapist will make some recommendations for how long the work should take and what it will involve.

This is a common problem and it can be tricky because it's important that both parties are willing participants in order for the therapy to be successful. The only advice we give is that despite the fact that relationship counselling can be difficult at first, it does get easier. Avoiding problems in your relationship doesn't make them go away. All that tends to happen is the problems fester and get worse. It's extremely rare for people to regret taking the decision to have therapy. More often than not, couples wish they'd done it months or even years earlier. We also offer individual relationship therapy, designed to help individuals who are experiencing difficulties in their relationships, even if your partner is not willing to participate in therapy.
